I read recently of some poor soul in college who labored to turn in a term paper.
He worked all week and finally it was done. When the professor graded his paper
he was a bit shocked. The professor had written in big red pencil at the top, "An
excellent paper, well-organized, very well-done, but I have to give you an 'F' because
it was completely the wrong assignment." Now, that would be hard to take. He did all
that work, wasn't that worth something? No, it wasn't what the professor had asked for.
Remind you of Philippians 1:10? "That you may approve the things that are excellent,
that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ,"
Wouldn't it be sad when we finally pass away to be told you did an excellent job in trying
to serve Me in your own way, but it wasn't what I asked you to do. So depart from Me, I
know you not.
Mark 16:16 doesn't leave much doubt in what He has asked us to do, does it? If that
includes something that you thought may work, think about it again today, won't you?
