You think you have problems? Let me talk to you about problems! I recently
was speaking with a lady and she began to tell me about a problem this couple
was having. I said to myself, "Wow!" Then, I asked her if I knew this couple
having so much to deal with and she said, "I doubt it, they are on a Soap Opera
I watch." I laughed and said, "I guess it helps to watch those because those
people have so many more problems than we do, right?"
Do the soap operas have any redeeming qualities? The Scriptures teach that
even the devil quotes scripture. I like, especially the verse that says "even the
demons believe and tremble". That is from James 2:19, "You believe that there
is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!"
If we do believe in God, we do well to remember that we can cast all our burdens
on Him. It may be a relief for some of us to view someone who is struggling harder
than we are, but that struggle needs a helping hand. We can't step into the story,
found on TV, but we can step in and share comforting words from God.
Watching a soap opera just may give you a sense of what others are going through
in this life. However, it doesn't relieve any of us of the responsibility to leave those
alone we encounter in real life, with their sorrow. Reach out to someone today!
